In my works in bronze, I enjoy exploring the perfection of the human form, particularly as exemplified by the gymnasts. Indeed, I have dedicated a whole series of bronzes to this subject. The perfection I see in the human body seems derived from the gymnast's absolute commitment to the function he or she is performing. The "Circle" also illustrates that an instrument or device as simple as a circle can and does consume the attention of the gymnast to the exclusion of outside distractions. It is this single-mindedness that results in the beauty of purpose.
