"On the Bench" is among the second series in which I was determined to outline my vision of reality. The first, Galaxy, attempts to define our relationship to the Universe. The second reaches higher, in defining our relationship to the gods—hence, the Masters and Minions series. "On the Bench" exemplifies the complexity of this relationship. While the Masters appear to be supremely aware of their superiority and independence of us, of the lower forms of life, they do, nevertheless, take full advantage of the support that the Minions provide. The Minions, in turn, seem overjoyed at the opportunity of serving their Masters.
