Charles writes:
This piece was the first of the three works published here, and in many ways is the keystone to the images created after it. "Untitled (IM)" is one of my first major works of grad school and also a turning point in style and sentiment. The process consists of a quick thin wash of paint to get over some of the jitters of approaching a blank canvas. Second, the images are created using several paintbrushes as pencils to maintain the precise line quality. Then color is added to the images created. Last is the overlay; during this process, the images from phase two are masked over with masking tape, and the entire canvas is covered with paint. I generally allow some opaque and solid areas of color to provide depth. This painting alone has served as inspiration for the following work, and through the process of this piece, I discovered what it takes to be an artist.
