Sue Ellen writes:
Like anyone who wanders across a beach, I pick up shells. For me, they combine the idea of protection and security with that of beauty and simplicity of form. The Nautilus, in particular, is a shape special to me. Its spiral represents the algebra of cycles, of growth unending: a simple form belying complex concepts—something I like to call "algo-rhythms." All of my Shell paintings combine the form of shells with the idea of the movement of water. I hope to capture visually a dynamic flow of energy within a highly designed space.
